NTA, an autonomous agency working under the Higher Education Department of the Education Ministry, has decided to cancel the UGC-NET exam held on Tuesday. The decision to cancel the exam was taken after indications of irregularities were received from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analysis Unit of the Home Ministry.
The controversy over the Medical Entrance Examination (NEET) result has not yet subsided that the Education Ministry has announced the cancellation of the UGC-NET examination as well. The Education Ministry said that the UGC-NET exam will be conducted afresh.
According to the government, the investigation into the examination irregularities is being handed over to the CBI. According to the statement issued by the Ministry of Education, NTA had conducted the UGC-NET examination on June 18, 2024 in two phases in various cities of the country in OMR (pen and paper) mode.
On June 19, the UGC received some inputs from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analysis Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs for the examination. These information prima facie indicated that the integrity of the examination may have been compromised.
The statement said that in order to ensure the highest level of transparency and sanctity of the examination process, the Education Ministry has decided to cancel the UGC-NET June 2024 examination.
A fresh examination will be conducted. For which information will be shared separately. Along with this, the cases are being handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for thorough investigation.
*Supreme Court’s notice to NTA on alleged irregularities in NEET exam*
The Supreme Court on Tuesday heard the petition filed regarding alleged irregularities in the NEET exam. During this, the court asked many sharp questions to the National Testing Agency (NTA).
The court said that even if there is 0.001 percent negligence in NEET exam, it should be dealt with.
Along with this, the Supreme Court issued notice to NTA and the Central Government and asked them to file a reply in this matter. Talking about the hard work of the students for this medical examination, the Supreme Court said that this petition should not be viewed in an adversarial.
